Living the Dream at Ventnor Fringe 2015

July inevitably turned into August, and here in Ventnor (and for the Undecided Art Collective for that matter) this means only one thing. A Whole lot of Ventnor Fringe goodness!

With the success with our themed show “Undecided on Love”, we decided to continue with our joint artistic adventures and tackle the mystery of dreams. “Undecided on Dreams” comprised of 25 of the Collective’s finest, exploring their own and others dreams – The good, the bad and the completely nonsensical!

Between Tuesday the 11th and Sunday the 16th of August we transformed Cafe 34 (Ventnor) into an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ of unique and affordable artwork. Including contemporary textiles from Julie Barnes of Ivy’s Table, the colourful acrylics of Stephen Butterfield, Dream-based oil landscapes from Mark Dickson, a Minecraft interpretation of Ventnor by Chris Gutteridge, New photographic works from Holly Cade, The Distracted Dreams series by Luke Ellison, The digital manipulations of Chris Jones (aka Chemical GDNS), God-knows-what from Six Webbed Fingers, Diaramas from Fran Heath, stunning pencil and tea drawings by Carlos M Burgos, the reciprocal drawings of Woz Hampshire, a whole album of sound-based art by Harry Wareham, a 32 minute documentary poem by John Armstrong of Chorderize, new work from Boney, and the multimedia stylings of Tania Dixcey plus many more!

The ‘Dreamline’ has almost taken on a life of it’s own since we set it up in preparation for the show and people are still ringing up and donating their dreams! You can donate your dreams to our artists via the UAC Dreamline, powered by the wonderful team at On the Wight. Just call 01983 475123 leave your dream as a message after the beep and you might see your dream re-interpreted as a piece of art by one of our members even after the show has now ended!

Francesca Bradley, 6Another new addition to the show came in the form of a Undecided Art Collective Kid’s Art Competition. We had many fantastic and imaginative pieces of work entered and we had the very hard job of having to chose our winners! Luckily we had the help of Mhairi Macaulay (the Producer of the Ventnor Fringe Festival) to help us choose. The winners of each category received a certificate, a handmade UAC rosette and an exclusive UAC goody bag! Our under 8 years old Winner was Francesca (Aged 6) who made a beautiful diorama inspired by our very own Fran Heath and based on a dream she had all taking place on a beach! The Under 16 Winner was Harvey (Aged 11) who after being inspired by Chris Gutteridge’s work, decided to put the Minecraft version of Ventnor through a tsunami, after he’d dreamed of the same scenario. He then took a photo of the waves engulfing the seafront and printed the pictures for a photo frame and a mug! We created the category of Highly Commended to encompass the wonderful Christopher (Age 9) who blew us away with his wonderful pencil drawing, which he finished working on Saturday morning when he visited us at the show! Once again, a huge congratulations to you three and a massive thank you to all who entered!

With our artist senses tingling and three post-it notes full of new UAC show ideas, we finish this blog entry by advising you to watch this space!

Love & Stuff!
